SERVICES MENU

First Principles Communication is different in two important ways:

  1. To the extent that communication can affect behaviour, we design communication strategies and implement tactics that are aimed at positively influencing the behaviour of stakeholders, prompting them to take actions to the benefit of the organization that has retained our services.

  2. Communication from First Principles is simple (not simplistic) and direct, and it is noticed, understood and remembered by stakeholders. Communication from First Principles sticks.

First Principles Communication
offers services in six broad areas:

  1. Public Relations and
    Corporate Communications

PR is a management function that begins with assessing needs and results in increased understanding and acceptance by various stakeholders, along with actions to the benefit of the organization.

  2. Reputation Management
We use communication to develop and maintain an organization's overall reputation with all stakeholders.

  3. Marketing Communications (Marcom)
Marcom is the area on the communications spectrum between pure public relations at one end and real paid product or service advertising at the other. Marketing communications includes new product publicity, the creation of sales sheets and brochures, trade show booths, product and service-related speeches and presentations at conferences, and more.

  4. Issues Management
This sub-set of the communications spectrum mixes communications with government and broad public policy. First Principles Communication plays both proactive and reactive roles in issues management, including pre-emptive analysis and program development.

  5. Transformations & Culture Change Transformations are triggered by mergers and acquisitions, new executive management, pressures from unhappy owners/shareholders, or a realization by senior management that their industry is changing and they must lead this change. Transformation Services from First Principles communication range from facilitating corporate strategic planning to publicizing the new ways an organization serves its customers. Of particular importance is aligning employees, suppliers and customers with the transformation Mission and Vision.

  6. Interpersonal Business Communication, comprised of specific, actionable, and measurable skills, is what is referred to in many career ads saying, "Must have excellent communications skills."

Maintaining Focus in Corporate Communications

What First Principles is all about
First Principles is a system of focusing the mind on what really matters in corporate communications. It keeps planning, thinking and action from drifting away from the most important aspects of communications-related situations.

PUBLIC RELATIONS, as defined at First Principles Communication
"The management function which determines an organization's communications-related objectives, evaluates public attitudes, identifies the policies and procedures of an individual or organization with the public interest, and plans and executes a program of action to earn public understanding and acceptance and cause actions to meet the objectives."
